Director of Learning Support, Full Time, Fall 2025

 

Job Description:

Maybeck High School, a small, independent, college-preparatory high school in Berkeley, seeks a full-time Director of Learning Support beginning in August of 2025. The Director of Learning support oversees and carries out the learning plans for students with learning differences and plays a key role on the administrative team in coordinating students’ academic and socioemotional support and working with teachers to better address the learning needs of all students in the classroom. Maybeck values experiential education, beginning and ending the year with all-school camping retreats, holding two weeks of immersive learning “Special Programs” in March, and engaging students in a range of elective activities on the weekends.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Meet with student and parent(s) to discuss implementation of accommodation plan

  • Meet individually with students who have learning plans

  • Meet with students on your caseload about their academic and co-curricular goals, and partner with families formally and informally to encourage student growth

  • Meet with students who don’t have learning plans but may have other academic support needs

  • Meet regularly with the Academic Dean and Dean of Students to coordinate student support, develop student schedules, problem-solve, and plan professional development for teaching staff

  • Attend student support meetings with the Dean of Students, School Counselor, and DEI Director

  • Co-lead Student Updates meeting with the Dean of Students

  • Observe classes to see how accommodations are being implemented 

  • Collaborate with and advise teachers to implement accommodations and to implement teaching strategies to meet the needs of all learners in the classroom

  • Read and interpret psychoeducational assessment reports to write appropriate accommodation plans

  • Plan student and parent workshops/parent affinity groups as necessary

  • Maintain records of psychoeducational assessment reports and accommodation plans

  • Coordinate accommodations for College Board and ACT 

  • Seek out and attend appropriate professional development opportunities associated with the position

  • Participate in Maybeck’s experiential education offerings throughout the year. (Participate in at least one of the Retreats and participate in Special Programs)

Desired: 

  • Depending on the person’s background and experience, this position would ideally include teaching one or two semesters of Health or Freshman Seminar or another course connected to the Director of Learning Support’s area of interest and expertise. 

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree 

  • Experience supporting adolescent students with learning differences through a culturally responsive lens

  • Relevant knowledge of or experience with designing and managing learning plans or IEPs and identifying appropriate supports (accommodations, modifications)

  • Ability to engage and build rapport with students of diverse backgrounds and skill levels, and a commitment to serving students equitably

  • Relevant experience working with teachers to address the learning needs of the students in their classrooms

  • Experience collaborating with teachers, administrators, and parents to support student learning and growth

  • A commitment to ongoing professional development

A teaching credential is not required for this position.

Position Details:

  • All staff members at Maybeck High School are compensated according to a step scale based on years of experience and degrees earned. The scale ranges from $81,052 - $126,103 based on background and experience. 

  • Full-time positions (80% or higher) include health benefits and life insurance.

  • All employees are eligible to participate in a 401k with an employer-matching contribution. 

  • Administrative staff have generous vacation in the summer and flexible hours during school breaks throughout the year.
