Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging
At Maybeck, we strive for a space for uncompromised expression of identity, in which all voices and identities are recognized and individuals are honored as they are. Throughout each school year, we are committed to:
Celebrating the racial, cultural, gender, sexual, and religious diversity of our school
Creating a welcoming community that is mindful, fair, diverse, and honest
Promoting respect and empathy for each other as we engage across lines of difference
In service of the above commitments, we:
Openly engage in dialogue and inquiry to understand and challenge systemic inequality along lines of race, class, gender, religion, sexual orientation, ability, and other forms of identity
Provide space, time, and resources for students to gather in affinity groups, for adults to participate in ongoing professional development, and for families to cultivate connections and build community
Continually revise and refine our curriculum, pedagogy, and practices through an anti-bias lens
Center healthy relationships and restorative conversations as part of our approach to resolving conflict, creating a space in which we seek to understand each other with vulnerability, empathy, respect, and a willingness to grow
This work is never finished, and we regularly engage in community dialogue to ensure that all aspects of our work are aligned with our mission.
