Maybeck High School: Maternity Leave School Counselor Spring 2021 

Maybeck High School is a small, independent, teacher-led, college-preparatory high school in Berkeley.   We are seeking a licensed mental health professional to fill our School Counselor role on a part-time (4-8 hours per week) basis, to cover a maternity leave position.  The position begins Monday, January 11th and will last until early May (exact date TBD). Exact weekly hours may fluctuate depending on the needs of students. We are seeking someone who will:

●      Collaborate closely with the Head of School, Academic Dean, and Learning Specialist to identify student needs and concerns and manage caseload accordingly.  This includes attending a weekly student support meeting.

●      Provide direct, confidential counseling and mental health support to students

●      Provide coaching/consultation to parents of Maybeck students on matters related to mental health and social emotional wellbeing of their child.

●      Provide consultation to staff to ensure that mental health considerations are taken into account to best serve the needs of our students.

●      Provide necessary crisis intervention if/when a student faces a mental health-related safety concern.

●      Consult with external therapists and support providers to ensure a wrap-around approach for our students.

The ideal candidate will be a licensed mental health professional in the state of California, have genuine excitement about servingteens, a strong commitment to equity, desire to work closely with people of diverse backgrounds,and relevant professional experience.  We especially seek applicants who have skill at supporting traditionally marginalized students and families.Experience as a school counselor is preferred but not required. 

During Fall 2020, Maybeck is holdingclasses online, primarily through Zoom and Google Classroom.  We offer someopportunities for students to come together in person for non-academic, community activities, with strict safety protocol measures in place. We are following the guidelines of theAlameda Health Department to determine our path to reopening for in-person learning. The ideal candidate for this position will have flexibility as to whether they are serving students remotely or in person during the Spring semester.

Salary range $70-$90/hr, hourly rate based on experience
